The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) sets the standards and grants approval to individuals or organizations to provide the EMDR Basic Training course.

EMDRIA does not issue provider numbers for the Basic Training course. However, they do issue EMDRIA Credit Provider numbers for other learning activities, such as advanced workshops, allowing clinicians to earn EMDRIA credits toward obtaining or maintaining certification. Our EC Provider number is 00015 and is valid through December 1, 2026.

Please Note: The Bodymind Institute, Green Cross Academy of Traumatology, Maiberger Institute, Parnell Institute, and PESI do not offer EMDRIA-approved EMDR basic trainings.

Yes, absolutely! All of our basic EMDR trainers are individually approved by EMDRIA to train for EMDR Consulting, meeting the highest standards set by both EMDRIA and EMDR Consulting. Additionally, our training materials are also EMDRIA-approved, so you can trust that you’re receiving the most current and rigorous instruction aligned with EMDRIA guidelines.

Prior to 2022, EMDRIA maintained a list of approved training providers like EMDR Consulting on their website. However, as of 2024, that page now redirects to EMDRIA’s comprehensive therapist directory. While you won’t find a page listing EMDR Consulting specifically, rest assured that our training materials are fully EMDRIA-approved, and all our trainers are also individually approved by EMDRIA. We remain dedicated to providing top-quality, EMDRIA-approved training for all our participants.

We follow CDC, state, and city guidelines as well as the protocols of the training venue. Currently, the CDC guidelines recommend to know the COVID-19 Community Level where you live.

COVID-19 Community Levels are a tool to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest data.

People may choose to mask at any time. Masks are recommended in indoor public transportation settings and may be required in other places by local or state authorities.

If you are at high risk for getting very sick, wear a high-quality mask or respirator.
If you have household or social contact with someone at high risk getting very sick, consider self-testing to detect infection before contact and consider wearing a mask when indoors with them.

We offer a reduced fee for clinicians interested in refreshing their EMDR basics. Please note, however, that this is not a separate “refresher course.” Clinicians who opt to pay the refresher fee take our basic course along with clinicians who are taking it for the first time. We consider this course to be a “reboot” rather than a simple refresher insofar as our approach takes into account how EMDR has evolved beyond Shapiro’s original conception formulated in 1995.

You qualify if you are a licensed mental health professional or under clinical supervision to practice individual psychotherapy and fit within one of the following categories:

Yes, the registration fee includes the 10 hours of consultation.

Instructions to obtain CE credits are sent out to participants via email approximately 7-10 business days after the last day of the training event.

If there is a slight delay, we apologize. Our administrative office needs to receive training attendance records from the training staff prior to sending out the instructions.

Note: You will not receive your CEUs until you have submitted the eligibility docuemnts (if applicable) and paid in full.

No, lunch is on your own. However, afternoon snacks are typically provided with water and coffee.

We try to arrange group lodging rates; however, these are available on a site-by-site basis. Check the specific training for details.

We recommend business casual clothing.

The trainer will send a welcome email to the participants 48 hours before the training with the Zoom invite. Please keep an eye on your spam/junk folders. Trainer contact information is available on our Training Staff page.

When registering, be sure to provide a personal email address (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL) instead of a work or agency email (e.g., @VA.gov). Organizational, governmental, and/or company-based email accounts might have security settings that block Zoom invites to the virtual training.

Participants will receive hard copies of the materials on-site at the training location.

Participants will download our training materials and review the instructions on our Participant’s page prior to the training, which are accessible from your account page (login credentials created during registration).

We recommend downloading and reviewing materials before beginning the actual training. You can access them on your account by clicking on the “View” button on the Training Materials card.

Typically, the 2-part training is 8am-5pm and the 5-Day intensive is 8am-5:30pm.
Breaks during the day may vary depending upon whether the training is virtual or in-person.
Lunch (on your own) is typically around 11:30am for approximately 1 hour; however, this time may also vary depending upon whether the training is virtual or in-person.

No, consultation starts after you have received some EMDR portion of your training (after Part 1 of the 2-Part training or after completing the entire five days of the 5-Day Intensive training).

Participants must complete the entire EMDR training course, which includes 10 hours of consultation and the 45-question EMDRIA Learner Assessment, within 12 months (1 year) from their initial start date. If participants do not complete the training and completion requirements within 1 year, they are required to re-take the training course in its entirety.

No. Once you have completed an EMDR Training, you are considered an EMDR trained clinician, and you will receive a document of course completion.

EMDRIA Certification in EMDR requires additional levels of continuing education and consultation in EMDR and is a separate process that begins after you have received your basic training document of course completion.

No. Completing at least Part 1 or the entire five days of the 5-Day Intensive EMDR training course qualifies you professionally, ethically, and within your standards of practice to begin using EMDR with your clinical caseload.
Certification is optional and may be pursued any time after you have completed the EMDR basic training course.
Certification fees are separate and apart from any basic training fees and are not part of EMDR Consulting’s training program.

To become certified, one must:

Be fully trained in an EMDRIA Approved EMDR training course and have received a document of course completion
Be licensed or certified in their profession with a minimum of two years’ experience in their field
Complete an additional 20 hours of consultation in EMDR by an EMDRIA Approved Consultant (we recommend using an Approved Consultant that is part of EMDR Consulting’s training staff)
Conduct a minimum of 50 clinical sessions with at least 25 different clients in which EMDR is utilized
Complete 12 hours of continuing education in EMDR to apply and every two years to maintain an active certification status

No. Much like your undergraduate course is separate and apart from your graduate course, EMDR basic training is separate and apart from certification.

No. EMDR Consulting’s administrative team is responsible for overseeing and supporting participants’ completion of the basic training course, not certification. Accordingly, our consultation scheduling system only supports basic training consultation sessions. If you are pursuing certification, please schedule and pay directly through your consultant.

Group consultation includes at least two consultees in a formalized setting which is led by a consultant in a structured group format. All consultees in the group are expected to participate and be prepared to bring their own EMDR case presentation material content for discussion. As a general guideline, EMDRIA states that groups should allow a ratio of 15 minutes per individual participant.

While consultation may include a wide variety of topics, EMDRIA requires some case presentations during your 10 hours of consultation.

Per EMDRIA guidelines, the ratio of consultant to trainee should not exceed 1:10 (smaller consultant to trainee ratios are encouraged). As a general guideline, groups should allow a ratio of 15 minutes per individual participant. Therefore, our consultation group sizes are limited to the following ratios:

1 hour group consultation: maximum of 4-6 participants
1.5 hour group consultation: maximum of 6-8 participants
2.0 hours of group consultation: maximum of 8-10 participants
2.5 hours of group consultation: maximum of 10 participants

When group time is not equally divided among consultees, each participant is expected to present case material so that all consultees in the group both demonstrate and observe their peer’s demonstration of standard EMDR therapy.

No, consultation starts after you have received some EMDR portion of your training (after Part 1 of the 2-Part training or after completing the entire five days of the 5-Day Intensive training).

You may begin scheduling after attending Part 1 or after attending the 5-Day Intensive.

You may start your consultation after you have completed all five days of training.

To sign up for consultation sessions, participants need to log into their EMDR Consulting account page, scroll down to the Consultations section, and then click the button that says View Consultation Schedule. From there, the participant will see a list of upcoming sessions. Participants can select the session they want to sign up for and then click the Sign Up button at the top of the page.

Participants are able to track the number of the hours that they have scheduled and completed by using the Hours tracker on the bottom right side of their browser or by returning to their main account page.

Please be advised that participants’ accounts only display consultation sessions scheduled through our new system, which went live on November 9, 2023, regardless of the number of hours that they have previously completed. We are unable to retroactively add session details (e.g., specific dates with a certain consultant) to participants’ accounts, but do not fear! This modification does not impact participants’ completion of the course in any way.

IMPORTANT: If a participant cannot access our new scheduling system and they are actively in the course of completing the 10 required consultation hours, we got you covered! Simply email [email protected] with the host city and dates of the training attended, and we will update the participant’s account to provide access to our new system.

Please note that our consultation scheduling system only supports the initial 10 basic training consultation hours. If a participant is interested in scheduling certification consultation hours or additional basic training consultation hours, they must schedule and pay directly through their consultant.

Schedule and space out your consultation hours to fit your clinical needs. The only requirement is to complete the 10 hours within the 12-month deadline. Our scheduling system will not allow participants to schedule more than 3 months in advance.

No. We believe that you are responsible for your own learning at the pace that best suits your needs. Having said that, we do suggest having a couple of consultation sessions between Part 1 and Part 2 so you can get additional feedback/clarification regarding how you can integrate EMDR into your clinical practice and how to best to use it with your existing clients.

Yes, EMDR Consulting is responsible for your learning of EMDR and how to integrate it into your clinical practice. Our training approach includes many updated techniques and approaches that others do not. Thus, for the consistency of your learning and to meet EMDRIA requirements, we require that you complete all of your basic training consultation (10 hours) with EMDR Consulting’s consultants.

No, you can work with any EMDR Consulting consultant who is listed within our consultation scheduling system (accessible from your account page).

No. We actually suggest that you receive consultation from several EMDR Consulting consultants as each will have their own strengths and ways of helping you integrate EMDR into your clinical practice.

If you started training with us in 2024, your account will keep a record of your completed hours as long as you scheduled your sessions within our consultation scheduling system. Anything scheduled outside of our system will not appear in your account record.

If you started training with us prior to 2024, you are responsible for keeping track of your 10 hours of consultation on your consultation sign-off sheet located in the back of the manual. There is a blank copy available for download in the Training Materials section of your account as well.

Regardless of how the consultation is conducted, write the date, length, and name of the consultant on your consultation sign-off sheet.

No. In fact, most of our consultation is over the phone or by virtual conference call.

When consultation calls are by phone, participants are responsible for any long distance/toll call charges. Any Canadian or International participants, please check your carrier as there may be reduced calling options.

No, the consultation component of the EMDR training course is not eligible for continuing education credit.

Yes, the registration fee includes the 10 hours of group consultation.

$250 ($25 per group consultation hour) of your registration fee is set aside to cover your required 10 hours of basic training group consultation.

Yes, all of EMDR Consulting’s consultants have agreed to this fee.

If you exceed 10 hours, you will be charged $25 for every hour that goes over the allotted 10 hours included with your registration fee.

Yes. For example, if you schedule a 1-hour one-on-one, then 1 hour of your group consultation fee ($25) can be applied toward the consultant’s total hourly fee. You are responsible for paying the consultant the difference out-of-pocket. It is up to you and the consultant to negotiate that hourly consultation fee.

EMDR Consulting’s consultants are still required to hold the session even if you’re the only one on the call! Your pre-paid consultation account will only be charged the calculated $25 per hour rate.

Out of professional courtesy and to avoid a late-cancellation fee, please cancel through your account at least 24 hours prior to the consultation session’s scheduled start time. Our consultation scheduling system automatically records participants as a “late cancellation” if they cancel less than 24 hours before the session is scheduled to begin.

Participants who are recorded as a late cancellation, no-show, arrive late, or leave early may be charged a fee by the consultant, which is to be paid directly to the consultant. Check the consultant’s bio for their late cancellation, no-show, and early departure fees.

Documents of course completion will not be issued until all outstanding fees have been paid.

A participant is considered a “no-show” when they are absent to the consultation session without prior notice. The consultant may bill you for your missed session, which is to be paid directly to the consultant. Check the consultant’s bio for their no-show fee.

Your no-show will not be deducted from your pre-paid consultation fees. You will be responsible for paying those out-of-pocket.

Documents of course completion will not be issued until all outstanding fees have been paid.

We offer financing options for those who need to spread out the cost through Afterpay, Klarna, PayPal Pay in 4* or PayPal Credit, and Sezzle!

*PayPal Pay in 4 is not currently available to residents of Missouri or Nevada.

We only accept checks for group registrations.

We require the participant’s registration information along with which training they will be attending before we can invoice.

We do not accept checks as a form of payment for a payment plan. If you need a payment plan, utilize our financing options during checkout.

Our checkout process only allows for one form of payment: a single credit/debit card, PayPal/Venmo, AfterPay, or Klarna. No exceptions.

Employers can register and pay for their staff by selecting “I am registering this for others” under the order type during checkout process.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), EMDR Consulting will make reasonable adjustments or modifications to practices, policies and procedures, and to provide auxiliary aids and services for our training participants with disabilities. It is the responsibility of participants who seek disability-related accommodations and services to submit their requests in a timely manner prior to the training, notwithstanding emergencies or unexpected events that require services.

Participants may request services during the registration process. Some services may require further written medical verification that supports the medical reason for the request (e.g., a supporting letter from their medical provider). To start this process, participants can complete our Request for Reasonable Accommodation Form and upload their documentation to their account page or email it to [email protected].

The time zone varies per training. This information is provided on our training calendar, at the top of each virtual training event page, and within the Training Details section on the event page.

Yes, you can. We ask that you be mindful of the time zone differences and how that will affect your start and end times. For example, when it is 8am Pacific, it is 11am Eastern, which means that if you are in the Eastern time zone attending a virtual training hosted in Pacific time, your training will start at 11am Eastern.

Cancellation Policy for Scheduled Trainings:

Minimum Attendance Requirement: EMDR Consulting reserves the right to cancel any training if it does not meet its minimum attendance requirement of 10 participants.
Force Majeure Events: EMDR Consulting reserves the right to cancel any program if a Force Majeure Event occurs.
Refunds: In the event EMDR Consulting cancels a program, participants will receive a 100% refund of their registration fee; however, EMDR Consulting is not responsible for reimbursement of participants’ incurred travel, food, and/or lodging expenses. Please make your travel plans accordingly, as EMDR Consulting will not reimburse any costs or expenses related to travel, lodging, or meals in the event EMDR Consulting cancels a program. If you will be incurring significant travel or lodging expenses, we recommend you purchase travel insurance from a reputable provider. For clarity and the avoidance of doubt, no refund of any kind will be provided to any participant who is ejected from the program for any reason.
If participant registers for EMDR Consulting’s program hosted by another organization (e.g., Centerstone, Leading Edge Seminars, MAHEC, Missouri Behavioral Health Council, Nachas Consulting, APT 15, U.S. Military, etc.), participant agrees to that organization’s cancellation, transfer, and refund policy for scheduled trainings.

Force Majeure:

EMDR Consulting assumes no responsibility for any personal injury, property damage, financial or other loss, accident, delay, inconvenience, or irregularity which may be occasioned by reason of any matter beyond its control, including, but not limited to, personal illness, a delay or cancellation of a flight or other mode of transportation, cancellation of your hotel reservation or expulsion from any venue used by EMDR Consulting, acts of God, acts or orders of government, epidemics, pandemics or other public heath emergencies, war, terrorist acts, riots, local or national disasters, weather events, unavailability of coaches, trainers, or other staff, strikes or other similar or dissimilar events or occurrences beyond EMDR Consulting’s control (“Force Majeure Events”) that causes you to miss all or any portion of the program.

Participant Cancellation, Transfer, and Refund Policy:

14+ days prior to event’s initial start date:
- Full refund of registration fee, less a $50.00 USD administrative fee
- 1 free complimentary transfer
  - Once used, $100.00 USD transfer fee
4-13 days prior to event’s initial start date:
- 25% refund of registration fee
- $125.00 USD transfer fee
72 hours prior to event’s initial start date / No-Show to event:
- No refund
- $150.00 USD transfer fee
- A “No-Show” is a participant who has registered for a training but who does not cancel their registration or attend the training.
Transfers are only eligible for 12 months (1 year) from the date of registration. After this date, participants will forfeit the full price of their registration fee and, if still interested in attending, need to re-register and pay the full registration fee again.
Refunds and transfer requests will be processed as they are received (our office is located in the Eastern time zone) and may take up to 5-7 business days to process.
For participants on a payment plan, any cancellation requests occurring after the second payment will incur a $100 cancellation fee regardless of the date of cancellation.

If participant registers for EMDR Consulting’s program hosted by another organization (e.g., Centerstone, Leading Edge Seminars, MAHEC, Missouri Behavioral Health Council, Nachas Consulting, APT 15, U.S. Military, etc.), participant agrees to that organization’s participant cancellation, transfer, and refund policy.

Instructions to obtain CE credits are sent out to participants via email approximately 7-10 business days after the last day of the training event.

If there is a slight delay, we apologize. Our administrative office needs to receive training attendance records from the training staff prior to sending out the instructions.

Note: You will not receive your CEUs until you have submitted the eligibility docuemnts (if applicable) and paid in full.

The spelling of your name on the top left corner of the instructions will not affect the spelling of your name on your CE certificate. If your name is misspelled, we apologize. We put your name on the CE instructions as a courtesy so you can find your instructions easily. Please correct it on the sign-in sheets so we can correct it in our files.

The CE instructions and the CE certificate are not a document of completion of the course.

Participants who have completed our EMDR training course and would like to be listed on our Find a Therapist list can indicate this preference on their consultation sign-off sheet or by emailing [email protected].

EMDR Consulting accounts are automatically created for participants when they are registered for a training through our website.
